Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother is a former back-up singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father proposed her to take on an appointment as curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved into the landmark. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a vocal music major. Sullivan performed as the contralto for the children's choir and was later a part of the adult choir. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. She recalls that she was eleven when someone was requesting her to sing for solos at the church. She wasn't fully ready. At that time, McDonald's held a contest that was open to children living in cities. I was allowed to sing "Accept what God allows" in The show Showtime At the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday at the age of thirteen. Sullivan signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. It was her first time signing with Jive Records in the year 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. The album never saw release. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. They had a strong working partnership along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her which included "Backstabbers" that was written by Timbaland.
